We weren’t able to buy many albums in 2008, but thanks to Paste Magazine & several websites offering free downloads (KEXP, NPR All Songs Considered podcast, Noise Trade, etc.) we still got a lot of individual songs. We now have a subscription to eMusic, so hopefully we’ll be able to get more full albums this year.

In alphabetical order by artist (because I hate making arbitrary decisions), these are my top 7 (strange number, I know) songs of 2008. I’ve italicized songs from albums we have in their entirety.

Skinny Love by Bon Iver

Monster by Bon Voyage

My Only Offer by Mates Of State

I Want to Belong to You by Katie Herzig

Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us by Sam Phillips

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here? by She & Him

And here are numbers 8-18 (alphabetical order again)

Furr by Blitzen Trapper

Valerie Plame by The Decemberists

Life Before Aesthetics by Denison Witmer

Oh No by KaiserCartel

Rattlin’ Bones by Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson

Charlie Darwin by The Low Anthem

Discipline by Nine Inch Nails

Aly, Walk with Me by The Raveonettes

Buildings & Mountains by The Republic Tigers

Lose You by Sandra McCracken

Amazing Grace (Give It Back) by Sixpence None The Richer

Life Of The Party by Waterdeep
